Welcome to My Inner Homepage
This place is where all my crazy ideas live
My name is Haowen Guan, written in Mandarin as 关皓文. I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Boston. I come from an interdisciplinary background with broad interests in physics, data, and life sciences. Currently, I am working in AI. My short-term career goal is to become a machine learning engineer, and my long-term goal is to be a researcher using AI to explore and understand the world and life.
My research motivation stems from a desire to understand the patterns of knowledge and find efficient ways to condense and transmit it. Human individuals are vulnerable and fleeting. A single human lifespan, which lasts at most 100 years, is too short to uncover the truths of the world. Reflecting on human civilization, we have reached our current state due to the inheritance of knowledge from our ancestors. What distinguishes humans from other species on Earth is our ability to pass on and receive knowledge. However, as knowledge accumulates and data increases at an accelerated pace, it becomes increasingly challenging for future generations to manage and digest it. As we enter the era of digital information and face an explosion of data, we now have the opportunity to efficiently manage this data, distill insights, and study the knowledge it contains. This is why I am working in AI.
As the mysteries of knowledge are gradually uncovered, my ultimate goal is to study the human brain and explore the nature of consciousness. In my blueprint, I aim to find a solution to either digitize the human mind or, ideally, sustain human brains by integrating them with cybernetic bodies. This remains a dream, but I am determined to work tirelessly toward it. If you share the same passion, I invite you to join me in shaping the future.
